I have not been charged with any crime. I must distinctly state that I do not believe that M. Dunman or any one else has made any such statement to Mr Anstey as he has embodied in his letter that any statement which may have been made has been distorted and magnified by him for the purpose of causing me further annoyance, and in order to ascertain the facts of the case I have by the Mail which left yesterday addressed Mr Dunman on the subject.
I beg to bring to the notice of His Excellency the Governor in order that he may be made acquainted with the opinion entertained of me by the authorities at Singapore, that in the year 1855 it was applied to me at the request of the then Resident Councillor Mr. Church to accept the situation of Superintendent of Police with an increase of $125 per annum to the Salary of the then Superintendent, and it was intimated to me that it was quite possible if I demanded $250 increase that it would be given. Mr. Church
